How Repair Cafe Works

What is Repair Café?

We throw away vast amounts of stuff. Even things with almost nothing wrong, which could get a new lease on life after a simple repair. The trouble is lots of people have forgotten that they can repair things themselves or they no longer know how. Knowing how to make repairs is a skill quickly lost. Repair Café changes all that! People who might otherwise be sidelined are getting involved again. Valuable practical knowledge is getting passed on. Things are being used for longer and don't have to be thrown away. This reduces the volume of raw materials and energy needed to make new products. It cuts CO2 emissions, for example, because manufacturing new products causes CO2 to be released.

Change mindsets

  • Recycle
  • Reuse
  • Relove
  • Help Save the Planet

Repair Café teaches people to see their possessions in a new light. And, once again, to appreciate their value. Repair Café helps change peoples mindset. This is essential to kindle peoples enthusiasm for a sustainable society. But most of all, Repair Café just wants to show how much fun repairing things can be, and how easy it often is. Why don't you give it a go?

Thanks so much for the event today! the whole thing was fab, obviously the people doing the repairs but the whole thing from greeting at the door and triage, the ladies doing the catering and the supportive community vibe with the ringing bell and clapping. Lovely way to spend a morning and thanks again for my repair to the whole team!

I brought a childs back pack in to be repaired today. I wanted to say what a fabulous job the lady made of the repair, we chatted with her whilst she worked, had an enjoyable hour at the cafe, and marvelled at the good work being done.
Thank you so much, this little cafe is such a lovely asset to our community.

Thanks Sue for repairing my mum's cardigan. She'd recently had a stroke. She was so pleased as the zip repair enabled her to wear her favourite cardigan when dressing herself.
